How it works
A day in the life of a Smart 7 home
Smart home technology can offer convenience to many. We recognise the importance of these new developments in improving the lives of those who need additional assistance. Smart home technology supports older people and persons with disabilities to overcome obstacles by removing unnecessary struggles.
8:00am
The bedroom curtains open to a brisk winter morning. Your smart heating has removed the morning chill from your room, making it nice and cosy.
You head to the bathroom for a shower. Your towel is at the perfect temperature, heated by the towel rail which turned on when you woke up.
9:00am
On your way to the kitchen you notice how clean the carpets are. The Robot Vacuum has given the floors a good clean while you were sleeping.
The weather and news start playing on your smart speaker as you walk into the kitchen. The kettle has already boiled in anticipation of your arrival for breakfast.
10:00am
It’s time to make a video call to your daughter to say good morning. You settle down in the lounge with your smart display and enjoy seeing your family on the screen.
Once you’ve ended the call, you tell the TV to turn on and settle down to watch some of your favourite programmes.
2:00pm
You leave the house to visit some friends and the heating turns off as you leave.
While you’re out, you get an alert on your phone to let you know that someone is at your front door. It’s the parcel you’ve been waiting for! Using your phone, you answer the door and ask the delivery driver to leave the package in the porch.
7:00pm
You head home for the evening, your phone sends a message to your heating to get the temperature ready for your arrival in the rooms of your choice.
You arrive home to find the porch light on and the curtains and blinds around your home closed. As you walk through the house the lights turn on as you enter each room. To remove the evening chill from your journey home, you ask the smart meter to turn the temperature up in the lounge as you relax in your favourite chair.

As you head to your bedroom for the night, the lamps and heating turn off downstairs. The lamps in your bedroom turn on.
You enjoy reading your book in bed before saying ‘goodnight’ to your smart speaker in the bedroom. As you settle down, the lamps and the bedroom heating turn off.
1:00am
You wake up needing the bathroom. Your smart home knows to avoid bright lights during your sleep cycle. The bathroom light comes on at a low brightness to help you get back to sleep quickly when you return to bed.
